I’m Rhiannon, an artist and business owner from Cornwall. I paint to express how I feel about a place, celebrating the joyful quirks which might otherwise go unseen. I love to play with colour and not take a painting too seriously. I know a piece is finished when my eyes dart around the painting, taking it all in. If it tells a story and makes me smile, it’s done. Being from Cornwall, inspiration is everywhere. I like to stop in a place, even if I’ve been there hundreds of times, and look for the details worth celebrating: spring flowers pushing through cracks in walls, rows of laundry swaying in the wind, colourful fishing ropes and crab pots cutting through the soft tones of the sea. I’m also fascinated (and a little obsessed) with buildings and the decorative details that make up our towns and cities. Ancient brickwork, spirals in iron railings, stained glass windows, the quiet reminders of times gone by that sit alongside shiny new shop fronts and extensions. I love the patchwork quality of it all. I studied Fine Art and Performing Arts before completing a BA (Hons) in Dance at Falmouth University. After a few years travelling the world, funded by a combination of painting and waitressing, I returned to complete an MA in Illustration at Falmouth. During that time I worked part-time at The Summerhouse Gallery in Marazion, which I went on to purchase in 2023.
